Introduce yourself. Name, Age, Hometown.

Becca Kim. 20. Born in New York. Raised in Jersey.

How did you get into the arts? Provide a brief background of your story.

I always had an interest to use the creative side of my brain to work with my hands, and find challenge through all mediums of art. During high school, I took the opportunity to enroll in a variety of art classes my school had to offer including painting, drawing, ceramics, photography, and singing. It wasn’t until college where I was able to dive my feet into graphic design and now, marketing, direction and design. I believe everything I have done thus far has led me to be prepared and capable for the industry. Now, it's just about building that confidence in myself and to not be afraid to jump into new experiences.

Creative, career or personal wise, what’s the ultimate life motto you live by?

Live, pray, learn, grow! Sounds cheesy but I always come back to this whenever I’m going through a hard time. It's a great reminder to live in the moment and not worry about what's to come because c'mon, we're always busy worrying about something. I thank God for the blessings in my life and for keeping me safe. We're always learning and growing from our past self, and I find that really encouraging to know that kind of growth never stops. Some experiences may not be the best but I try to view them as lessons and keep striving towards the better version of myself.

In the next 5 years, where do you see your passion taking you? What’s the current dream you're manifesting?

I’ve never had a concrete answer for the “what is it that you want to do in the future” question besides to grow, learn, and see where the process takes me. That motto has stuck with me since.

I am excited to take on every opportunity God gives me. I’ll take it with a mix of confidence, a bit of fear, and willingness to embark on the challenge. I'm always pushing myself to believe in my work because no other person can ensure that feeling except for me. Art comes in such diverse forms, and I am still searching for my lightbulb moment where a specific art field clicks. It could be content curation, design freelancing, creative direction, photography, or all of the above. I’m really not sure but until then.. I’ll just keep learning and growing.

Who would you would want to collaborate with and why?

Louisa Meng and Okdeon are tremendously talented. They specialize in creative direction/photography. I admire their originality and if I am ever in need of inspiration, I always look up to them. They both collaborate with such genuine, cool ass artists and create magic together. Whenever they get to work with higher up companies, it’s always their own style shown through each piece, not the other way around. You can truly see the drive, growth, and meaning behind each piece of work they execute.

I strive to be at a point in my life where my career becomes a passion that doesn’t feel like work, but more like play. Another quick shout out is Tezza! She owns several businesses and her creative work never ceases to amaze me. She made Forbes 30 under 30 which is a major flex... like go off!

Has social media played a positive or negative role on your creativity? Explain.

Haha social media is SO weird. There's so much inspiration on every kind of feed but many times I catch myself thinking “why didn’t I think of that?” or “how did this person do that?” or “I wish I could be this person." But, social media never shows the full story so maybe take everything as a grain of salt. You never know how much of a struggle this person could have gone through to have finally been able to post their work online. On the flip side of things, social media is a great way to connect with others in the community. I’ve met some super cool people and even made friends through a slide in the DM. It really is a double edged sword and minor things like that should never dictate your whole life.
