ETHEREAL
/əˈTHirēəl/:
delicate and light in a way that seems too elegant and flawless for the world.
Q: A lot of the times, makeup artists can be misunderstood. People who express their creativity through makeup don't always get the credit they deserve. Or, they can become associated with the stereotype of being insecure, or having the need to use makeup as a cover up. What is a stereotype or stigma you hate that is associated with makeup and artists alike?
A: Growing up, the negative connotation of makeup being a stereotypical ditzy, girly thing bothered me a lot. I would refuse to tell people that my hobby was makeup because I feared that their impressions of me would be a "girly" girl who only cares about the way she looks. Now, I realize that the initial fear I had was deeply rooted in misogyny. Today, I've been able to turn my fear into something that empowers me. I care less about what others think about me, and do what makes me happy.
CHROMATIC
/krōˈmadik/:
relating to, or produced with various color.
Q: Looking at your Tiktok profile, you have more than several videos that have blown up! Over the past year, how large has your platform grown? Additionally, how does seeing your work and art get noticed by people make you feel?
A: My platform on Tiktok has grown very large just in the last few months! The first video I posted was on September 15 of this year, and it really took off! As of now, it has up to 1.4 million likes. To this day, it boggles my mind but it honestly fills my heart to know that so many people are appreciating my content and talent. I am especially grateful when people reach out and tell me that they are inspired to start experimenting with makeup after watching my videos. Hearing these comments make me feel ecstatic, especially if I can encourage others to grow more confident and comfortable in their own skin.
AUREATE
/ˈôrēət,ˈôrēˌāt/:
denoting, or having the color and tint of gold.
Q : Makeup is a huge form of empowerment, inspiration and art to many people. It can also serve as a creative outlet for people to cope and de-stress. What kind of message or motive do you wish to convey and share with others through your makeup?
A : Through my makeup, I want to be able to encourage others to fully express themselves. Personally, makeup is something I use as a creative outlet. I love the versatility makeup provides me, especially since I can do whatever I want with multiple colors and shades. All in all, I want others to receive the same kind of comfort and inspiration I get from doing my makeup.
POSH
/päSH/ :
classy, elegant or luxurious.
Q: In the next few years, do you see a career with makeup in your vocational future? If so, would you want to create your own makeup line? Or personally work with a beauty company or brand? Explain.
A: I would genuinely love to do something with makeup in the future. However, I am currently in school studying to become a nurse. But, who says I need to limit or restrict myself? I think working with makeup would be a innate way for me to continue to express my creativity. In the future, I would love to collaborate with a makeup brand, and even release my own line of products.
INDIGO
/ˈindəˌɡō/:
a dark blue-violent tint in color.
Q: If you could only have one makeup item, what would it be?
A: If you were to ask me this same question a couple of months ago, I might've said lashes without any hesitation. But, lately I've been practicing makeup looks that don't use falsies. I think this small change has really stepped up the game for me. Now, I would say eyeshadow just because of how versatile it can be. For example, I currently am able to use my eyeshadow as liners, bronzers, lipstick and so much more!
